Dr. Paul Shekelle is the Chief of General Internal Medicine at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, a primary care physician in our primary care clinic, and a Professor of Medicine at UCLA. He is also a Core Investigator for the VA HSR Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation & Policy (CSHIIP) and Director of the VA West Los Angeles Evidence-based Synthesis Program (ESP), both at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA). Dr. Shekelle was founding Director of the AHRQ-funded Southern California Evidence-Based Practice Center (EPC) site at the RAND Corporation, a position he held for more than 20 years. He received the VA Under Secretary for Health Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Health Services Research (2011) and the Duke Alumni Award (2014) in recognition of the impact of my work on evidence-based practice nationally and internationally. His research interests are in the areas of evidence-based medicine, practice guidelines, and quality of care, and he has co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 80 of which have been published in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, The British Medical Journal, or Annals of Internal Medicine.
