Our training programs are part of a VA-UCLA-RAND Multi-Campus Primary Care and Health Services Research Fellowship Program that integrates education/mentoring activities across three VA-funded fellowship programs, alongside the UCLA/VA Clinician Scholars Programs.

VA Women’s Health Fellowship Program

The purpose of this program is to train physicians and associated health professionals to advance clinical care, teaching, scholarship, and system improvements related to the advancement of healthcare for women Veterans.

VA Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research

The fellowship provides two years of research, education, and post-doctoral clinical learning opportunities to eligible physicians, associated health/nursing professionals, and other PhDs.  Physicians and clinical fellows spend approximately 20 percent time in clinical care in a VA setting aligned with their interests. All fellows spend significant mentored time in healthcare improvement activities and research projects, in addition to activities related to scholarship. Mentors of national stature provide guidance to fellows in rich learning environments.

Graduates are expected to be role models in leading, developing, conducting, and evaluating innovative health services research in a variety of clinical settings including VHA and other healthcare institutions that seek to improve care for Veterans and the Nation.

VA National Clinician Scholars Program

The fellowship provides two years (with an option for a third year) of post-residency research, education, and clinical learning opportunities to eligible physicians and nurses. Participants are expected to complete a graduate level research project using a broad array of disciplines. These may include epidemiology, biostatistics, medical information sciences, economics, the social sciences, anthropology, history of medicine, law, and ethics. The program will emphasize the importance of community health, consistent with VA's goals to optimize the health of the veteran, the VA community, and to contribute to the health of the Nation. VA Clinician Scholars participate in activities at VA GLA as well as participate fully in the overall UCLA Clinical Scholars program at the affiliated institution.
